This is a Courtois bass trombone in F with double slide made in Paris in 1834, thanks again are due to Ed Solomon for sending in this photo.

This beauty is an early 19th century F bass trombone by Joseph Caspar Gabler, wind instrument manufacturer by appointment to the royal court in Berlin. The detail from the bell garland (below) reads: "J. Gabler, Königlicher Hofblasinstrumentenmacher in Berlin".

This is a section of Courtois trombones consisting of: an alto in Eb, a tenor in Bb and a bass in F. Built in the 1870's, they are the property of Musikmuseet (Stockholm's Music History Museum) and were (apart from the alto which was purchased recently) donated by the Royal Stockholm Opera.

Doug Yeo with the F bass trombone made by Steve Shires (1991 from Bach 50 B parts) when he was working at Osmun Music (Arlington, Massachusetts). The instrument is available for rental by contacting Osmun Music (www.osmun.com).
Doug used this instrument on the Boston Symphony Orchestra's recordings of Bartok's Concerto For Orchestra and The Miraculous Mandarin (Ozawa/Philips), and will be doing so again this spring (1999) when his orchestra takes the same repertoire on tour to Japan and China.
Well, here it is: my contribution to the World's F bass trombone population.
If you want to hear it, I used it on The Chamber Orchestra of Europes new recording of Don Giovanni (DG. Abbado, Terfel). I haven't heard it myself yet so will somebody please tell me if I should shoot myself now?
